Why this website?
Rayman is one of my childhood game franchise, I loved Rayman 3, spend hours on the Nintendo DS port of Rayman 2 and probably break a controller on Rayman 1 (PS1) that I never finished...
Later on I learned the difference between different ports discovering the DreamCast version of Rayman 2 and Rayman Revolution on Playstation 2 for exemple. And I was impressed to see how different they can be.
Then I looked on the definitive way to play my favorite titles and decided to share my take on it. I don't hold a universal truth and it really depend on individual preferences, that's why I always included three different versions (with my order of preference from best to worse (not including the really bad ones))
Will you cover weird ports such as Rayman 3 on GBA?
Eventually but I will have to play them before as I almost played none of them.
Have you really played all these versions?
Not from start to finish but I played most of them (sometimes through emulation) and also read reviews of the community on online forums and YouTube videos to get a better idea of the quality of the port/version.
Why providing links to ROMs and emulators?
I want to make theses games as accessible as possible because some are not available for sale outside the second-hand market and for exemple I find hard to recommend to someone to buy an Atari Jaguar and a physical copy of Rayman (1995) at their price just to enjoy the best version of it. Also these games are quite olds even if the last two (Origins and Legends) are still available on market on a few platforms I feel confident that sharing links to free versions won't hurt sales.
I also want to provide what I consider a safe way of acquisition because if someone decide to download a ROM (or even an emulator) and don't really know good sources it might be dangerous for their devices. By providing links to popular maintained emulators and trusted ROMs archiving website I think I do more good than bad for gamers (Ubisoft is not a small company, it will recover). Of course I always providing an official store link if available and encourage gamers who can to buy the games officialy. But many games aren't available first-party if you want a specific version of it.
Why not providing links to pirated PC versions?
According to my previous claim, if I want to be consistent I should provide safe cracked version of the PC versions. So why it's not?
Simply because I haven't pirated a PC game for over a decade now. So I don't know the place to look at and don't feel comfortable in sharing some. Also it is more risky to execute a .exe than reading a ROM, even if it doesn't mean that they can't be infected. Most of the PC games have a DRM-free version for cheap on GoG (especially during sales) so it's just worth it. With the exception of Rayman Legends which is better on a Switch emulator anyway.
Will you provide links for cracks when the next official Rayman game is realeased?
It's official Ubisoft is working on a new game for its franchise. I don't plan on providing a link to any cracked versions on release when they become available because I want people to show Ubisoft that Rayman is a successful franchise by voting with their money.
